Blending & Filling of Chemicals
At Rotterdam Blending & Filling, no less than 1,000 m2 of the storage and distribution center is equipped for, among other things, the filling of liquid (hazardous) chemicals. RBF specializes in filling products into various packages, such as IBCs or drums.
Storing hazardous materials is a critical aspect of many industries, but it also comes with inherent risks. That’s why it’s essential to follow regulations and guidelines for the safe handling and storage of dangerous goods. The Dutch standard PGS15 provides comprehensive guidelines for the safe storage and handling of hazardous materials, including requirements for the construction and layout of storage facilities, ventilation systems, and fire protection measures. With our expertise in the transportation and storage of hazardous materials, we aim to provide valuable insights and best practices for the safe storage of hazardous materials, and help you mitigate risks associated with warehousing dangerous goods.

Our warehouse on the Maasvlakte specialises in the following services:
- Filling
- Mixing
- Storage
- Repackaging
Filling process
For filling liquid (hazardous) chemicals, the tanker or ISO tank is connected from the integrated weighbridge outside to the semi-automatic filling machines inside. Inside, the desired packaging, such as IBC or drum, is placed on the supply belt of the filling machines. By working with a smart system, the filling machines fill exactly the right amount in designated packaging. With this, RBF fully meets the filling requirements of its customers.
Although the filling system is automated, an operator will always be present during the filling process to keep a close eye on everything. Already during the filling process, the packages are prepared to be included in the logistical process. Each package is checked and labeled with the product’s characteristics and information and, if applicable, the appropriate ADR compliant hazard labels.
Hazardous Possibilities
Our personnel are trained to work with, fill, handle and store hazardous materials. RBF can fill hazardous liquids from the following classes:
- ADR/IMDG class 3, flammable liquids
- ADR/IMDG Class 4.1, flammable solids and self-reactive substances
- ADR/IMDG Class 4.2 Substances liable to spontaneous combustion
- ADR/IMDG Class 4.3, Substances which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases
- ADR/IMDG Class 5.1, oxidising substances
- ADR/IMDG Class 6.1, Packing group I, II & III, Toxic substances
- ADR/IMDG Class 8 Packing group I, II & III substances
- ADR/IMDG Class 9, Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles
- CMR – Carcinogens, mutagens and reprotoxic substances
- Unclassified chemicals
Weighbridges
RBF has four of its own integrated weighbridges. These are deliberately integrated into the filling process so that the driver does not lose any time and all operations can take place in one location. This integration, especially with hazardous liquids, guarantees the safety and quality of the process and the product. Because the tank truck or ISO tank is on the weighbridge during filling, the exact required weight can always be loaded and/or unloaded.
In addition, the filling system is directly connected to the weighbridge. If the weighbridge indicates a decrease, but the filling system does not indicate an increase, the system automatically stops. Because of this integration and various smart systems, RBF can switch quickly and safety, speed and quality remain guaranteed.
Mixing and Repacking
To IBCs
RBF can repackage liquid chemistry to IBCs as bulk packaging. In these, RBF can fill the product directly, but RBF can also repackage the liquid chemistry to IBCs. RBF has IBCs of 1000 litres.
To drums
Besides IBCs, RBF also has drums. RBF can fill the liquid chemistry directly into drums, but the product can also be repackaged from an IBC into drums. The drums have a capacity of 200 litres.
To drums
RBF cannot fill liquid chemistry from the ISO tank or tank truck directly. However, RBF can repackage the product from IBCs or drums into cans. These cans have a capacity of 20 litres.
Mixing liquid chemicals
RBF can mix different liquid goods together to form the desired mixture or solution. This is carried out at packaging level, which means that products from different packages are combined in one package. Here, exactly the desired amount of all products are added to create the desired composition. In addition, RBF also offers the possibility of transferring and mixing products from tank to tank.
Certification
Quality and safety are of paramount importance at RBF. RBF has an environmental licence based on PGS 15. RBF is also SQAS-certified and holds the ISO 9001 certificate
