What are the average transit times?
The transit time of air cargo depends on the destination, type of flight and logistics handling. Within Europe, it usually takes one to two days, while intercontinental shipments take two to five days. Express services can deliver cargo within 24 hours, while indirect flights or consolidation services can take four to seven days. Factors such as customs inspections and weather conditions can affect the delivery time.
What do you need to consider?
- Shipments via direct flights have shorter transit times because they are transported to the destination without stopovers. Indirect flights can be cheaper, but often require transshipment at a hub, which takes additional time.
- Depending on the destination, time zone differences and strict cut-off times at airports may affect the final delivery time. Late delivery may mean that a shipment will not travel until the next available flight.
What is important?
- Customs procedures can affect transit time, especially for intercontinental flights. Delays sometimes occur due to additional inspections or missing documentation, making quick handling crucial.
- Extreme weather conditions such as storms, fog or snow can delay or cancel flights. Operational disruptions such as strikes or technical problems can also impact scheduled transit times.
