The opening of WattHub's new fast-charging plaza on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam has been postponed until November 1. Originally, the location was supposed to be operational as early as last summer, but delays in the delivery of materials pushed the schedule back, director Gerben van den Berg reported. Further details on the causes of the delay were not given.
The fast charging plaza will be WattHub's second location, after Geldermalsen, and is specifically designed for electric trucks and heavy equipment. Its strategic location, close to container terminal RWG, makes the site ideal for logistics companies operating in the Port of Rotterdam that want to make their fleets more sustainable.
The opening will take place in phases. In November, 28 DC fast charging points and 3 AC fast charging points will become available. Eventually, the plaza will have 48 DC chargers with a capacity of 400 kW and 5 AC chargers of 250 kW. This second phase is scheduled for 2026.
With this project, WattHub is responding to the growing demand for charging infrastructure for emission-free transportation. The initiative contributes to energy transition and supports the Port of Rotterdam's ambition to play an important role in sustainable and innovative logistics.
