Global demand for air freight continues to rise
The global air cargo market continues to send positive signals in May 2025. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global air cargo demand increased 4.4% in March compared to the same month last year. This growth confirms a broader recovery in the industry, despite ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainties.
In particular, the rise is driven by increasing exports from Asian countries such as Vietnam and India, where more and more manufacturing capacity is moving. Companies are choosing air freight more often because of shorter lead times and the recent drop in fuel prices, which makes air freight temporarily more attractive than ocean freight.
In addition, many companies are anticipating possible trade barriers, such as new import tariffs between the U.S. and China. This leads to a temporary increase in cargo bookings, especially on trans-Pacific routes.
