No priority for truck traffic at border controls
Cargo traffic will not be given priority at border controls to stop asylum seekers. Minister Barry Madlener opts for other measures to spare the transport sector.
Flying brigades in the Netherlands
Germany has introduced permanent border controls, while the Netherlands has launched a trial of "flying brigades. A call by Pieter Grinwis (ChristenUnie) to reintroduce "green lanes" - accelerated passage for freight traffic - Madlener rejected.
No exceptions for truck traffic
According to the minister, exceptions would undermine the effectiveness of controls. However, the government is taking measures to reduce waiting times and minimize the impact on the economy.
Waiting times remain limited
The green lanes were used during the corona pandemic to allow trucks to pass more quickly. According to Madlener, this is not necessary now because the checks are targeted and risk-based. So far, there are hardly any complaints and waiting times remain limited.
