At Neele-Vat, we offer transportation insurance, which is only possible if we provide the transportation. This insurance is crucial for situations such as damage to shipments, for example Chinese vases, where it is often difficult to identify the responsible party.
Shipments, especially outside Europe, have a higher risk of damage because of the many parties and methods of transportation involved. Incoterms such as Ex works and Free on Board help determine when the risk of loss or damage passes from seller to buyer. It is important to include clear agreements about this in the contract.
Transport insurance can be taken out for the entire transport route (door to door) to avoid discussions with insurers about damages. Depending on the frequency of trade, one can choose per-shipment insurance or continuous transport insurance. This also provides protection against Averij Grosse, in which costs for rescuing ship and cargo are partially recoverable from the cargo owner.
